How is Relizen made?

The raw ingredients in Relizen are grown in the fields of southern Sweden. We mechanically harvest our pollen source materials, closely monitoring pollen quality. The plants are collected and pure pollen is derived and inspected for quality. Only premium pollen is used for extraction. Why did it take so long for Relizen to be offered in the US?

It is customary for it to take some time before products launched in other parts of the world become available in the US.

The manufacturing process used to purify the Swedish pollen extract used in Relizen removes a significant percentage of pollen allergens.

In addition to the primary pollen-based component, Relizen contains additional ingredients that are listed under the supplement facts box on the back of the Relizen package or on our website at hellobonafide.com.

Please consult your medical professional before taking Relizen if you have any concerns about an allergy to the ingredients in Relizen.

What do I do if Relizen stopped working for me?

While we don't have a study that specifically analyzes this subset of women, we have had other customers reach out to us with the same question. For some of them, after going off Relizen for a few months, their symptoms came back stronger. They realized Relizen was working, but that they had been going through a phase where the severity of their symptoms had increased due to the hormone fluctuations associated with menopause. We have also heard anecdotally from some customers, and from doctors with patients on the treatment, that they have tried doubling the dose. While we do not have clinical data to support it, you may want to try changing from two tablets a day to four tablets per day to see if that works for you.

If you have specific concerns, you should speak with your doctor or healthcare practitioner.

Can I take Relizen if I am allergic to pollen?

Our highly sophisticated and controlled manufacturing process is designed to remove most pollen allergens. Please consult your medical professional before taking Relizen if you have any concerns about an allergy to the ingredients in Relizen.

Quality & Control

Is Relizen a bee pollen product?

Relizen’s primary ingredient is a Swedish purified flower pollen extract.

Pollen, when used in its crude form, as in bee-collected pollen, can have adverse effects for allergic consumers, as the allergens of the pollen are intact. The quality and mix of the bee-collected pollen depends on what flowers the bees have visited. Additionally, bee pollen is known to have a tendency to oxidize in the pollen trap of the beehive. Relizen is made from a high quality, well-defined mix of species-specific flower pollen harvested during a specific season. Our highly sophisticated and controlled manufacturing process is designed to remove most pollen allergens from Relizen.

How is the quality of Relizen monitored?

The manufacturer of Relizen has a proven track record of successfully collecting large quantities of pollen source material to be used for pollen extraction. Our standard operating procedures guarantee consistent manufacturing quality and our stringent processes and controls govern the handling of our extracts. This is essential for ensuring that Relizen is consistent from dose-to-dose. Our Swedish manufacturing partner harvests the key ingredients mechanically, closely monitoring quality and using only premium pollen for extraction. Our Swedish manufacturing partner complies with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and manufacturing facilities have passed FDA inspection and are regularly inspected by the Swedish Medical Products Agency (MPA).

Are any other products manufactured in the facilities where Relizen is made?

Relizen is manufactured in a facility that is cGMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) compliant and independently audited by the FDA and other certifying organizations. Other products may be manufactured where Relizen is made, but the equipment is thoroughly cleaned under cGMP guidelines to assure the purity of our products.

Revaree is odorless and colorless. More than one million women across 40 countries have safely used a version of its formulation.

What is a vaginal suppository?

Vaginal suppositories are treatments that are inserted into the vagina, sometimes with the use of an applicator. Revaree is a vaginal insert that is placed directly into the vagina, without the use of an applicator, to provide relief at the site of dryness.

How does Revaree work?

Revaree is made of hyaluronic acid, a molecule that is naturally produced throughout the body and plays a significant role during cell development, wound healing, and regeneration. In the case of vaginal dryness, Revaree works by attracting and retaining moisture in the vaginal cell lining, creating a healing environment for thinning and damaged skin to provide lasting, hormone-free relief. The molecules inside Revaree can absorb up to 1,000 times their own weight in water, which helps keep vaginal cell tissue hydrated and rejuvenated. Hyaluronic acid has been rigorously studied in multiple clinical trials and is shown to be safe and side-effect free, with no effect on estrogen levels.

How do I use Revaree?

1 Revaree vaginal insert is placed into the vagina every 2-3 days, at bedtime, as needed. For best results, we suggest placing the insert into the vagina while lying down. In clinical studies, women saw relief with Revaree as early as day 9 of treatment, with symptom relief improving over time.

However, the estimate based on patient feedback is approximately one hour. Note that Revaree is not compatible with natural rubber latex, polyurethane and polyisoprene condoms.

What are the ingredients?

Revaree is comprised of hyaluronic acid. Each 2g vaginal insert contains 5 mg of hyaluronic acid sodium salt in a base consisting of a mixture of semi-synthetic glycerides, which help it retain its shape.

Does the hyaluronic acid in Revaree come from animal sources?

No, the hyaluronic acid in Revaree is of biotechnological origin. During the manufacturing process, no material of animal origin is used.

Is Revaree cleared by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration)?

Yes, Revaree has been cleared by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) as a Class II Medical Device.

What is the differentiator for Revaree when compared to other options?

Revaree is a safe, effective, and non-hormonal solution to vaginal dryness. Across multiple clinical trials, the active ingredient in Revaree, hyaluronic acid, has been demonstrated to be safe and effective. Unlike estrogens, Revaree has been shown to have no effect on estrogen levels in the body, making it a great solution for those who cannot or do not want to take hormones. As with many topical treatments for vaginal atrophy, if Revaree comes into contact with natural rubber latex, polyisoprene, or polyurethane condoms it may weaken the integrity of the condom. Other forms of condoms have not been tested. However, unlike topical estrogen products, Revaree is non-estrogenic and has no adverse effects on the penis.

How soon after sex can I use Revaree?

Revaree has not been studied for use directly after intercourse. While there is no evidence to suggest that it cannot be used right after sex, it is advisable to wait at least a few hours or until the next day before using Revaree since the vagina can sometimes get irritated after intercourse, and insertion of anything might foster further irritation.

If you have specific concerns, we recommend that you speak with your doctor or healthcare practitioner.

You should wait until the Revaree insert is melted before penetration, even when used regularly.

Who can or should use Serenol?

Serenol is intended for women who are experiencing PMS symptoms. Its key ingredients have been shown to be safe in women in multiple clinical studies.

How does Serenol work?

Just as the causes of PMS are not clear, Serenol’s mechanism of action is not fully understood. It is hypothesized that the primary ingredient in Serenol works centrally to reduce certain symptoms of PMS. Additionally, Serenol contains chromium picolinate, an insulin cofactor which helps with glucose metabolism and appetite control.*

What symptoms does Serenol help?

The ingredients in Serenol have been shown to decrease irritability, mood swings, water retention, sleep disturbances, food intake, and food cravings.*

Is Serenol non-hormonal?

Serenol is not a hormone, and does not contain any hormones. However, Serenol contains royal jelly, a bee product that may act as a phytoestrogen. If you have any medical concerns, please check with your doctor.

How is Serenol made?

Serenol is composed of 2 primary ingredients – purified pollen extract and chromium picolinate. The purified pollen extract comes from plants grown in the fields of southern Sweden. We mechanically harvest our pollen source materials, closely monitoring pollen quality. The plants are collected, and pure pollen is derived and inspected for quality. Only premium pollen is used for extraction. Serenol’s Swedish manufacturing facility has passed FDA inspection, and is regularly inspected by the Swedish Medical Products Agency (MPA). The chromium picolinate is produced in the United States under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Serenol is manufactured in the USA by combining the purified pollen extract and the chromium picolinate.

Royal jelly was a secondary ingredient used in the main clinical safety and efficacy study and is therefore included in the formulation of Serenol. Royal jelly is made from bees; therefore, if you are allergic to bees or bee products, you shouldn’t take Serenol. Royal jelly may also act as a phytoestrogen. If you have any medical concerns, please check with your doctor.

About Us

What is Bonafide?

We started Bonafide with a simple mission in mind: to provide women naturally powerful solutions for perfectly natural symptoms. Free of hormones, full of effective ingredients, and backed by clinical research and doctors alike, Bonafide products effectively address an array of symptoms that occur throughout the many stages of a woman’s life.

Today, the Bonafide product portfolio addresses four distinct areas of women’s wellness:

Revaree® for the relief of vaginal dryness, Relizen® for the relief of menopausal hot flashes and night sweats, Serenol™ for the relief of emotional symptoms of PMS, and Ristela™ for sexual satisfaction.

What has changed?

Nothing has changed about our products; the ingredients are exactly the same. What has changed is the look of each of the products, for example the packaging has a new look which includes new colors and a new logo. You will see that the individual product names have not changed, but the packaging now also includes the new Bonafide brand name. The website has also changed and reflects the new look and feel of the Bonafide brand. If you have a subscription with us, that will remain the same; you will not see any changes to your account. You may also see some new advertising that reflects the new look and feel of each of the products.

Why did you make this change?

While women have trusted our individual products like Relizen, Serenol and Revaree for years, we realized there was an opportunity to make an even better and more convenient way for customers to engage with our brands, thus Bonafide was created. We still hold true to the very same commitments we made when we first launched our company – to create safe and effective products that address women’s needs, throughout any stage of life. Bonafide recognizes that women deserve relief without compromise and that is why we are continuously researching and developing new approaches to treat the most common wellness needs.

Health & Wellness

What are hot flashes?

Hot flashes are the most common symptom of menopause. Although hot flashes can be triggered by internal and external influences, such as stress, excitement, spicy foods or even room temperature, their exact cause is unknown. The current theory is that neurons in the body's central thermoregulation system in the hypothalamus may act differently when exposed to the low estrogen environment of menopause, causing the body to flush. If the hypothalamus mistakenly senses that you are too warm, it starts a chain of events to cool you down. Blood vessels near the surface of the skin begin to dilate (enlarge), increasing blood flow to the surface of the skin to try and dissipate body heat. This produces a red, flushed look to the face and neck in light-skinned women. It may also cause you to sweat (sometimes sweating excessively) to try and cool your body down. An increased pulse and a feeling of momentary high heart rate may also occur.

What causes vaginal dryness?

Many factors may contribute to vaginal dryness. Vaginal dryness can be caused due to low or fluctuating levels of estrogen in the body, which is commonly brought on by menopause. Certain soaps, lotions, perfumes, and cleaners can also disrupt the natural balance of chemicals in the vagina, leading to dryness. Vaginal dryness can cause itching, burning, or other irritating sensations that make it hard to feel comfortable and be intimate. Vaginal lubricants and moisturizers can be used to help these symptoms of vaginal dryness by providing short-term lubrication or to help maintain vaginal health and comfort.

What else can I do to prevent dryness?

Dryness can be aggravated by soaps, perfumes and other chemicals such as bath oils and shower gels. Disinfectants and antiseptics could also cause discomfort, so it is best to avoid using anything other than lukewarm water or a soap-free intimate wash.

What is menopause?

Menopause is a normal, natural event that is the permanent end of menstruation and fertility, defined as occurring 12 months after your last menstrual period. Certain surgeries and medical treatment can induce menopause.

It's a turning point that all women experience, not a disease, but it can have a big impact on a woman's wellbeing. Although menopause can be the source of disruptive side effects, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and tiredness, menopause can also be the start of a new and rewarding phase in a woman's life. Menopause is usually confirmed when a woman has missed her periods for 12 consecutive months (in the absence of other obvious causes). American women experience menopause at age 51 (on average), according to the National Institute on Aging, but menopause can start earlier or later – some women may experience menopause as early as 40, others as late as 60.

What is perimenopause or premenopause?

Menopause happens gradually. The menopausal transition phase is called perimenopause (literally meaning “around menopause”). Perimenopause is defined as the period of your life shortly before menopause, when your body gradually begins to produce less estrogen, and your body begins to show the physical symptoms of menopause. Perimenopause begins many years before the last year of your menstrual period. Perimenopause can last six years or more, and ends one year after the final menstrual period.

How do sexual function and satisfaction impact quality of life?

Improved sexual function can have positive, long-lasting effects on emotional and physical health, from easing stress and tension to boosting one’s sense of wellbeing.
