Up to 84% of postmenopausal women may notice vaginal symptoms such as dryness, itching, burning and painful sex related to fluctuating and declining estrogen levels.1 Vaginal dryness, however, can occur at any point in a woman’s life, but it becomes more common during the menopause transition because of these hormonal fluctuations and often peaks later in menopause.2,3 As the number of women speaking openly about their personal experiences with menopause and perimenopause symptoms, such as dryness, grows, so does the selection of Bonafide products designed to meet the needs of these women.
Our newest innovation? Meet Revaree® Plus.
What is Revaree Plus?
Revaree Plus is a hormone-free, paraben-free vaginal insert that provides extra strength vaginal dryness relief in a formula gentle enough for those with sensitive skin. Scientifically formulated with double the dose of hyaluronic acid (compared to original Revaree®) and soothing sweet almond oil, Revaree Plus is designed to help manage vaginal dryness and its related symptoms such as burning, irritation and painful sex.
Why Was it Created?
Bonafide is committed to providing women with easy to use, hormone-free, clinically studied and efficacious products that will provide the best symptom relief possible. Revaree Plus seemingly fits all those criteria.
We formulated Revaree Plus to provide even more relief from common perimenopause and menopause symptoms, such as vaginal dryness and pain during sex. As mentioned, this new and improved version of Revaree contains twice as much moisturizing hyaluronic acid as the original, along with gentle-on-the-skin sweet almond oil.
What Does the Science Say About Revaree Plus?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule (a mucopolysaccharide if you want the technical terminology) that is already produced and present in many tissues in the body.4 “Hyaluronic acid (HLA) production diminishes with age, which can contribute to symptoms such as vaginal dryness,” explains Bonafide Chief Medical Officer Dr. Alyssa Dweck. “HLA is a super moisturizer which has the capacity to retain many times its weight in water and support hydration and lubrication. HLA has been used for years in other medical fields including dermatology, orthopedic and ophthalmology fields.”
Another key ingredient in Revaree Plus, sweet almond oil, has been shown to soothe and hydrate dry, delicate tissue.5
“From a clinical survey standpoint, over 90% of women using this product, reported that Revaree Plus reduced their vaginal dryness,” says Bonafide Scientific Affairs Associate Tatiana Silva. “In conversations with women who have used the product, we have been able to see firsthand how Revaree Plus improves daily comfort and the overall quality of life for women experiencing this common menopausal symptom.”
How is Revaree Plus Used?
Revaree Plus is most effective when inserted vaginally, 2-3x a week, unless otherwise directed by a healthcare provider (please note, Revaree Plus is not intended for oral use). “The suppository is best placed at bedtime, when laying down,” Dr. Dweck advises. “This will allow for it to adequately melt and dissolve, to coat the vaginal tissue.” It’s important to note that Revaree Plus is not compatible with latex, polyurethane and natural skin condoms as they may affect their efficacy. Be sure to check with your healthcare provider if this is a concern for you.
What Sets Revaree Plus Apart?
“Revaree Plus contains 10 mg of hyaluronic acid, which is the highest dose of hyaluronic acid available in the form of a vaginal insert,” Dr. Dweck says. “It’s also unique in that it contains sweet almond oil, which has been shown to be beneficial for soothing and moisturizing dry, irritated skin.”6 She adds that the insert is also not messy like a gel or cream, although a small amount of oily discharge might be noted the morning after insertion. If this is bothersome, using a panty liner can help to manage any discharge experienced with this product, which again, should be minimal if any at all.
What About Risks and Side Effects?
“Seldom pain or burning was reported after the use of Revaree Plus, which was usually due to the severity of dryness present in the first place,” Dr. Dweck says.
Who Shouldn’t Use Revaree Plus?
Anyone with a sensitivity or allergy to any of the ingredients found in Revaree Plus should avoid the product. Otherwise, it can be considered to be a safe, gentle, hormone-free option for women dealing with vaginal dryness. As with any new product, we always recommend checking in with your healthcare provider prior to use, as they know your medical history best.
